2. Mar 09,  · It was released in May , through record label United Artists. As with The Stranglers' first two albums, Black and White was produced by Martin Rushent. The album sees The Stranglers adopting a more experimental approach to song structures and time signatures (for example, "Curfew" features 7/4 time). Includes 'Nice 'n' Sleazy'/5(19).

4. It was a toss up between this and Black And White but this just about pips it as the production is fantastic and it's such an interesting listen. Even the experimental "Manna Machine" towards the end is a captivating listen. Turn up loud for full effect, also good on headphones. 6: 6. The Stranglers Black and White () Top tracks: Toiler On.

5. The black side is far more consistent, although "Do You Wanna" is one of the weirdest songs in the band's catalogue and "Enough Time" is simply enough. But "Curfew", "Threatened", "Death And Night And Blood (Yukio)" and "In The Shadows" are vintage. In the end it's not as simple as black and white and this album ends up squarely in a very grey.

Rat walks, monochromatic lighting, strange yet compelling music, a jam packed venue with dark clad monks of darkness and a strange brew of an atmosphere can only mean one thing – the Stranglers annual celebration of their strange and idiosyncratic world is back in town and it doesn’t get much more strange and idiosyncratic than the Black.

9. ” Black and White’ was a superb slice of post punk psychedelia- all twisted landscapes and weird song structures, it was the Stranglers at their most obtuse and yet you could still file it under pop, and certainly a lot of people did as the album hammered into the charts at number 2.
